Research Locations

The Institute for Shock Physics (ISP) is a multidisciplinary research organization within the College of Arts and Sciences at Washington State University.

The ISP conducts research activities in three locations:

  • Institute for Shock Physics, Pullman, Washington:  Combining scientific innovations and rigorous education, the ISP’s focus is to undertake a broad range of fundamental scientific activities related to understanding condensed matter response under dynamic and static high pressures.
  • Applied Sciences Laboratory (ASL), Spokane, Washington:  Transforming science into practical solutions, the ASL focuses on applied research activities.
  • Dynamic Compression Sector (DCS), Advanced Photon Source (APS), Argonne, Illinois:  The frontier of dynamic compression science, the DCS represents a partnership between WSU and the APS to develop a first-of-a-kind user facility, funded by the DOE/NNSA, dedicated to dynamic compression research.

The Institute is internationally known for its state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary research, and offers numerous opportunities to participate in research teams and leadership roles.  Please see our current openings (tenure-track faculty, research, or administrative positions) for additional information and consider joining our growing team!
