Financial Support

Financial support for outstanding Ph.D. students in the Institute for Shock Physics (ISP) is available through a variety of sources:

  • ISP Graduate Scholar Award
  • Research Assistantships
  • External Scholarships

Required qualifications for financial support include an interest in ISP research activities, an excellent academic record, and admission to an academic department in the physical sciences or engineering at WSU.

The ISP Graduate Scholar Award

This prestigious fellowship includes:

  • $32,000 Annual Stipend
  • Waiver of Tuition
  • Health Insurance

The ISP Graduate Scholar Award is for outstanding incoming graduate students who make a commitment to doing their Ph.D. thesis research in shock wave or dynamic compression science.  U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.  If you are interested in ISP research activities and would like to be considered for the ISP Graduate Scholar Award, please fill out the application form found below.

Research Assistantships

A Research Assistantship (RA) includes an annual stipend, waiver of tuition, and health insurance.  To be considered for a Research Assistantship, please view the graduate studies admission guidelines published by the academic department in your field.  In addition, please feel free to contact the Institute directly (shock@wsu.edu) for more information.
